What does the "Near" word indicates in Post Details page for location?

When a post being uploaded, we capture its geo location (that is its latitude and longitude) using the mobile location service and due to the nature of this service, it cannot give exact location all the times. Hence, the location of the Dump is approximate. That's why the location address is prefixed by the word "Near".

How can I see the post location in the map?

You can go to the details of the post and click the address link to see the post location in the map.

How can I communicate with the dumper to get details about the dump?

You cannot communicate with the dumper to get the details of the dump. The very nature of the app is to encourage anyone (who can be just walking down the road and coming across a dump), not necessarily just the ""dumper"", to post details of dumps . Hence, Dumps can be posted by the person who throws it away or any passerby or both. We also do not have any login/registration mechanism as such and hence a dumper is not accountable for providing the details of the dumps. Therefore, while it is not possible to know about the details of the dump from the dumper, there are high chances that a close to accurate details of the dumps will be available to you.

Features

Can I register for a specific item / location for which the app can send me a notification?

We already have an enhancement requirement for this and will be available in the future release.

How would I know the dumps are still available?

We do not continuously "track" the dump and hence cannot gaurantee the availability of the dumps. However, more recent posts have better chance to be available. We encourge whoever is taking the dumps to add a comment so that others might check the latest status of the dump. We have plans to include a feature that will look at these user comments (and other information) and infer posts expiration date/time.

Technical

How does Dumpick work?

Overall, the functionality of Dumpick can be broken into two broad categories: 1. Uploading a post: When you are ready to share a post, you take pictures of a dump, write description, and submit the post. The pictures along with the information such as the description, approximate location of the dumps, time and date of the post, etc are sent to our applications running on a central server (In this case Amazon cloud) via internet. 2. Search Post: When you are looking for your favorite item, you can search the item by its description and/or by the location. When you do the search, the search criteria is sent to our applications running on the Amazon cloud, and the result is sent back to your device for display.

Where the data is stored for Dumpick? Internal/External?

Data in Dumpick is stored in mobile Internal storage and AWS Storage services. Data in the mobile device includes an ID generated by the backend service on the first launch of the app. This ID is then used by the mobile app to send the subsequent requests. Once you delete/uninstall the app, the ID will be deleted as well.

There is no registration process. How then I can still see my posts and my favorities?

We link a specific installation of the app to "My Post" and "My Favorite" dumps at the backend. This also explains why when you uninstall and reinstall the app, you cannot see the posts/dumps within "My Post" and "My Favorite" sections.

When I uninstall and reinstalled the app, all my posts and my favorite is no longer visible. Why?

We generate a unique ID number behind the scene when you open the app for the first time after installation. This number is then used to identify your specific posts and your specific favorites. However, once you uninstall the app, and then reinstall, it gets assigned a new number which does not have any favorite and any posts associated with it.

Are you capturing my mobile IMEI number or any private information from my mobile?

We assure you that there is absolutely no personal information being captured by the application. Even registration and login functionality do not exist within the app. The only place we optionally ask you to provide your email is when you are submitting the feedback just because we thought it would assist us in responding back to you as effeciently as possible.

Do you track my location?

No. The application does not "track" your location. It takes a snapshot of your location only at the time you capture first photo of a dump that you want to share with the community. It also takes your location when you are searching for the dumps at "Near Me" location.

Where can I find the Terms & Condition / Privacy details about Dumpick?
